Concept
I designed the original Beach Bum logo and brand system over 20 years ago, establishing a visual identity rooted in the idealized California beach experience. The concept was intentionally simple and immediately recognizable—combining bold color, playful illustration, and iconic elements such as a house, palm tree, sun, sand, and surfboards to communicate vacation, ease, and approachability at a glance.
The goal was to create a brand that would stand out in a crowded coastal market while remaining timeless, adaptable, and scalable across all touchpoints—from signage to marketing to environmental applications.
System
The brand system was designed for clarity, memorability, and longevity:
Color: High-contrast, saturated palette for maximum visibility in outdoor environments
Iconography: Simplified beach elements creating an instantly recognizable visual language
Typography: Bold, approachable lettering reinforcing accessibility and energy
Messaging: Direct, benefit-driven communication with strong readability at distance
The system was built to scale across signage, marketing materials, and environmental applications.
Execution
Designed full vehicle wrap system from concept through production
Developed layout diagrams and scaled mockups to ensure accurate placement across vehicle surfaces
Translated brand elements into a dynamic, wraparound composition optimized for movement and visibility
Oversaw production to ensure color accuracy, material performance, and installation quality
Outcome
The Beach Bum brand has remained relevant and recognizable for over two decades, contributing to the company’s position as a leading vacation rental and property management agency in Pismo Beach.
The vehicle wrap extends the brand into the physical environment, generating high visibility, positive public engagement, and increased inquiries driven by street-level exposure.
